Refer to Susan Sontag’s ideas about photography—about why we take photographs, about how they allow us to control/capture the world, about what makes photography an art, and about the photographer’s relationship to the “shot” object. Many of her ideas are surprisingly relevant to digital work, but of course digital control of images brings up other issues, too. Think about this: what are the ethics of air-brushing braces out of a high school graduation photo?
