Assume you have been asked to speak during the next social work training about conducting assessments in working with clients with severe mental illness. Your goal is to help your colleagues in conducting effective client interviews to select and use appropriate methods for evaluation of outcomes to best assist and monitor client progress social workers recognize the importance of evaluating processes and outcomes to advance practice, policy, and service delivery effectiveness. Social workers understand theories of human behavior and the social environment, and critically evaluate and apply this knowledge in evaluating outcomes.  Your goal should also be to analyze, monitor, and evaluate intervention and program processes and outcomes to improve practice effectiveness.

Prepare a narrated PowerPoint for your meeting. Be sure to include the following:

  • Provide at least six questions to ask in a comprehensive strengths-based assessment, including at least one cultural related question.
  • Analyze a psychometric assessment tool that can be used to support assessment and diagnosis.
  • Examine an assessment measure to monitor client progress or lack of progress.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness (strengths and weaknesses) of your selected psychometric assessment tool and assessment measure in appraising client progress and treatment outcomes.
