Sociology Journal Gender Sex and Sexuality Essay

This week we have learned about the concept of doing gender.  As West and Zimmerman explain, gender is an activity rather than a static category.  We do gender every day.  And as an action, it should be theoretically possible for people to re-do or un-do gender.  When we re-do gender, it no longer becomes associated in the same way.  For example, men who wear pink.  When we un-do gender, it no longer is connected to either gender.  For example, people wearing pants.  Write a 1-2 pages paper on the following prompt. Please make sure to properly cite sources using the APA style guide.

Prompt: Take 10 minutes to watch an individual do gender.  Describe how they do gender.  Then think about the ideas of re-doing and un-doing gender.  What aspects of gender do think are important for society to re-do or un-do?  Explain why.  Your answers about un-doing or re-doing gender may be what you observed, but do not necessarily have to be.
