In A Child of Hitler, Alfons Heck provides an account of his membership in the Hitler Youth, claiming at the end of his work to be one of Hitler’s “enthusiastic victims” (pg. 207). In a three- to five-page paper (approx. 300 words per page) react to his argument by explaining the extent to which you can agree with him, if at all. Your essay might address the following questions in some way: Which major life experiences does Heck offer to support his claim that he was one of Hitler’s victims? Are there limits to his claim? Bearing in mind that Heck was a supporter and perpetrator of Nazi policies, how readily would you classify him among the Nazi regime’s victims? Your paper should analyze Heck’s argument by addressing his key life experiences.

The paper must be typed, double spaced, and in standard essay format. Your grade for this assignment will be based on the quality of its writing and on the degree to which your work demonstrates a critical engagement with the text in its entirety.
