essay of information media

This essay will focus on Information/Media.

This essay is about the way you learn. For example, investigate an assumption you have lived by and trace it to its origins as well as your process of integrating it into your life, nature vs. nurture, or the banking concept of education. It could also be about a hobby you participate in, such as a sport, a career interest, etc., and how information about that is distributed while analyzing the effects on the subject or individual.

For example, you could look into Twitter and the issues facing mass communication, what constitutes valid information: journalism/blogging, follow the path of ownership: if/how conglomerates affect information dispersal, media and its effects on consumerism, and so on. Remember to introduce, quote, analyze different viewpoints and arguments.

You can also look at how your subject(of any choice…a hobby, an object, anything) is related to by society. For example, take running. If I wanted to do this paper on running, I could look into the history of it (I’m thinking Olympic origins here). I could look into steroid use in today’s culture. I could look at running in books(Murakami comes to mind) and magazines. I could explore the newest running culture, the sub cultures, how runners are now portrayed. How does media play into it? How about Nike? What about the shoes? The clothing, the hype that goes along with it? What does it say about me as a runner(if I was a runner)? Why did I get into it? What health ploys do I get from the media? What information is real about it and how do I know?

Oh boy…lots to write about. If subheadings help, use them! Break up the essay into different pieces if you want. If you get really caught, do it about several topics, like technology and something else. The main goal is to think about how you think about something. Really! Just go from one idea and follow it, explain how you got to the thought you have about it.

All the pieces it takes to have a thought, your specific thought, takes a lot of input from a lot of different sources throughout your life. You know these things and come up with thoughts in a flash. This class is to slow those down so you can look at and analyze the process of your thoughts. Thinking about thinking. Whoa. Have fun with this:) It’s like the ads. You see them in a different way(or so many of you wrote), and this is no different. Look at something in a new way. Look at it from different perspectives, and write it down. MLA format, of course, but how you fill that format? Let it go wild!

At least 1500 words (work cited not included in count), MLA format, with at least 3 sources.
