Keep these facts in mind as you watch this short lecture video on biology and aging.
-Telomeres protect the ends of chromosomes (longer telomeres related to longer lifespan)
-Without telomeres, cells can’t reproduce
-As cells divide, telomeres shorten until cells can’t replicate anymore (Hayflick limit)
-In the case of cancer, radiation can shorten telomeres and inhibit cell growth, thus preventing the growth of cancer (which is a form of uncontrolled cell growth).
