testimonial research paper assignment on ready player one

Background:

Cline subverts the dystopia genre by creating a second setting for the book in the form of a virtual utopia entitled “Oasis,” which is the setting for the majority of the book. To reach the virtual paradise of Oasis, the narrator, eighteen-year-old Wade Watts, tells readers that citizens only need a pair of virtual goggles, gloves, and a console.

Your Task:

In a 5-6+ (approximately 1200-1400 words) page paper, you will be analyzing Ready Player One and using outside research (not just the sources I provide you with). For this paper, you will be developing your own topic.

You will also be doing an annotated bibliography assignment to help you with your research.

  • Don’t worry about creating your own topic! You can use any of the topics from the discussion forums. As for the midterm paper, you can use your discussion posts in your paper.
  • I will post example topics soon.

My Topic: Explaining the theme of escaping and show the positive and negative effect on living in an unreal life as the main character does

Attached is the annotated Bibliography to write to paper.

Criteria for Success/Requirements (How I will grade you):
  • I suggest using your discussion forum posts to help you write this paper!
  • No unreliable, unacademic sources like Wikipedia, or other websites. These are not allowed and may result in a failing paper.
  • You must use 4 quote sandwiches from one of the primary reading (Ready Player One). Failure to do so means you could fail this assignment.
  • You must use 3 quote sandwiches from your outside research (Annotated Bibliography assignment–the readings I have provided do not count!). Failure to do so means you could fail this assignment.
  • So…a total of 7 quote sandwiches!

  • Please do not put all of your quotes in one body paragraph, the introduction, nor conclusion. Quotes need to be spread out!
  • Do not use the first person pronoun (I, we). Or, use it very rarely.
  • Parenthetical/In-text citations for every quote
  • Analysis to explain your quotes and connect back to your thesis. (I want your opinion!)
  • This is not a personal narrative. Do NOT use the first person pronoun (I or we).
  • Create an introduction that includes: an attention grabber, context/background, and ends with a thesis.
  • Thesis and topic sentences that are arguable (I want your opinion!)
  • Paragraphs that follow that are structured with topic sentences, quotes, and analysis (you might want to follow the PIE or TEA models if you know them though this is not required).
  • Sophisticated, smooth transitions between your paragraphs
  • A conclusion that wraps-up your argument.
  • Strong sentences that are both grammatically correct and sophisticated
  • MLA works cited page (if you need help with MLA citations, click here). Without MLA citations, your paper will fail. I may fail your paper without a works cited page.
  • Writing that is free of plagiarism
