Explain how a leader finds his or her voice, placing yourself in the position of a leader in a criminal justice capacity. By knowing who you are , what you stand for in values, beliefs and visions for yourself, and the agency. I think by asking your constituents their beliefs and values , where they see the agency as a whole , communicating and learning about your constituents helps in building a solid foundation and to build on that information as a team. Demonstration of your beliefs and letting others know what defines you and makes you who you are is a sign of a great leader. (Kouzes & Posner, 2017). I think that when a leader knows who their team is and aware of their strengths and weaknesses , which can still be seen as a strength in different yet effective ways, the leader can also show leadership by giving others ownership. This can show a sign of trust to the constituent by simply believing in them, but can just as well show that the leader trusts in their ways and see their potential.

Explore the potential consequences associated with a lack of leadership authenticity in a criminal justice context. Any leadership is an enormous responsibility. I am a believer in the saying that “Actions speak louder than words.”(Mark Twain), and if one does not act upon those words , they are at a great risk for losing credibility. This can weaken their voice they may have had and also lose the trust amongst many. I don’t think that people believe that in jumping into a leadership role things change overnight. In being a leader, you should know who was there before you. Know the history. What worked and what didn’t work with your counterparts, ask their thoughts. See what changes need to be made or improve on what is in place. Give others a chance to “shine” ,and guide them along. In being your own person and being true to who you are , your giving others the real, authentic you. Being true , not sugarcoating anything , learning from mistakes that have been made, and forging on. Not a fake or like the other leaders before. This , I believe goes a long way in leading others.

Illustrate how a criminal justice leader can build confidence with stakeholders regarding the department’s commitments to mission and values. In leading the departments mission and values , I believe you have to stand above the rest. Bring ideas to the table , do as you say , have each others backs and stand with one another in the good times and the bad. Sometimes, more than not this means going above and beyond the call of duty. Communications with the agencies on a consistent basis and sharing the vision(s) and goals of the agencies as things change within the CJ world keeps the lines open ,and there is more commitment and accountability within the stakeholders. Knowing that the stakeholders can count on each other and believe in their word holds much weight, and that I believe will get and/or keep an agency moving in the right direction. All of this demonstrates that the stakeholders have the interests of the agencies missions and values at heart.

A leader can only find their inner voice through a thorough examination of themselves and their true desires. They must envision every little detail of their vision that they want to make and implement into their work-place policies. They need to figure out how to go about approaching the situation as well as possible outcomes and what they want the outcome to be.

Every project and organization need leaders in place. If there is a lack of leadership then there is nobody to lead, guide, or maintain the employees or the community that is involved. Without leadership, people will feel that their perspective ideas are not being heard and that nobody cares. Individuals roles may change and adjust accordingly. This is a bad situation all around because this can possibly cause hostility and may result in employees quitting making things more difficult.

Building confidence is something that is built and maintained over a period of time. Communication is key to building confidence. Trust and reliability are two important elements that contribute to building confidence through communication. One must always keep their word on something that is agreed upon. Throughout the whole process, communication must be maintained and followed through on. The way scenarios are handled also develops a rapport between the two individual groups.
