Assignment: Cause and Effect Essay

Write a 3-paragraph essay explaining one specific Cause & Effect relationship.

Pick a specific cause and effect. You will write about the causes of something or the effects of something or both.

Use the instructions below, and be sure to use at least one book or website to locate facts that will support your writing.

Your three-paragraph essay should look like this:

  1. Paragraph One: Get the reader’s attention, introduce your topic, and two or three main points.
  2. Paragraph Two: Explain your main points and add facts to support them.
  3. Paragraph Three: Summarize the information you gave above.

BE SURE EACH PARAGRAPH CONTAINS AT LEAST 4 SENTENCES.

Be sure your writing contains:

  • A thesis statement in which you clearly identify the cause-and-effect relationship you will explore (This should be the last sentence of your first paragraph.)
  • Well-chosen, relevant supporting evidence (This is from the source(s) you will cite at the end of your essay.)

Author. (Date published if available; n.d.–no date– if not). Title of article. Title of web site. Retrieved date. From URL.
