Infant Cognition Habituation Visual Test Research Methods Paper
Research Methods- Design an Experiment
Design an experiment to determine if 1-month-old infants can see a stationary object. Use
one of the “looking” measures (or a variant), described in your Infancy Text or other
readings for this course (e.g., visual preference method; infant-control habituation and
recovery method; novelty preference method). Be sure to answer each part fully.
A) Describe your stimuli
B) Describe your method
C) What is your DV (measure) –be specific
D) Hypothesized results
E) Explain how your hypothesized results will show that infants can see the object.
Each journal entry should be ½ – 1 page long, single-spaced, and should consist of the following 4 elements (with each element clearly labeled, A. B, C, D).
- a) Describe the phenomenon. Describe it thoroughly enough so that another person who has not read the course materials could understand it.
- b) Explain why it is interesting to you.
- c) Describe some important Research on this phenomenon (referencing the authors and year of the study) and the logic underlying it.
- d) Relate this phenomenon to something else you have read in the course and elaborate, OR d) explain a burning issue or follow up question that interests you and describe how you would design a study to further investigate this phenomenon.
