jewish stories discussion

Last week and this week you read some of the most important stories from the Jewish tradition – the story of the creation of the world, Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, Moses and the Passover story, stories about the Messiah, as well as some selections from the Talmud. Some of you may have already been familiar with these stories, while for others they may be completely new!

Prothero tells us that “to be a Jew is to tell and retell a story” – in particular, the “story” of the Jewish people and their “vexed” relationship with God and the rest of society.

For this discussion, I would like you to choose one of the Jewish World’s Wisdom readings that we have read so far (I chose The World’s Wisdom, Judaism: 10, pictures attached!), and discuss why you think the story is important to Jews? Why do you think it’s important to “tell and retell” that story? What do you think the story means to the Jewish people?

Your initial response must be at least 250 words and include two direct quotations from the reading (along with the page numbers for the quotes).
