Philosophy Teaching and Educational Approaches Essay

Throughout the semester, students should be using their course readings, class discussions, and individual reflection to begin developing a statement of their philosophy of education and teaching. This assignment is meant to capture that developing philosophy in a systematic, written form.

The statement should be 3-5 pages in length and meet the following criteria:

Draw from at least 2-3 thinkers/readings from our course (and, less formally, from our class discussions and from the general development of your thinking throughout the semester). By “drawing from” course thinkers/readings, I mean that you are engaging with their specific ideas as they relate to your own developing ideas. And this means using and quoting direct passages from the readings, putting them into proper context, and citing them properly (using APA standards).

Your essay will include a concluding section in which you discuss how your emerging philosophical perspective on teaching/education will inform your current/future classroom practice. How, in other words, do you plan to implement or “live” this philosophical perspective in/through your teaching
