1. Question:  Why do you think families, for example, are best understood when viewed from a systems perspective? What are the strengths when applying systems theory to families? Can you foresee any weaknesses to family systems theory?

2. Question:  Why do you think family systems tend toward homeostasis? How does this tendency relate to the concept of Wholeness, as described in this Chapter? Can you give an example of  “homeostatic mechanisms” you’ve observed during your life that have kicked in to restore equilibrium? How do you think the proverbial family “thermostat” gets set in the first place? Said differently, what are some factors that determine what a family system experiences as “equilibrium?”
